Maximising small spaces in your home is a great way to make the most of what you have. Living in a one bedroom apartment I have been finding out and trialling numerous ways to spruce up and revamp my living spaces so that it looks bigger, cosier and more inviting.
From wall-mounted shelving to light fixtures that double as decoration, this post will provide plenty of tips and tricks on how to make the most of any small living area.
Utilise Vertical Storage
Wall-mounted shelves are an excellent option for maximising storage space in a small room. These can be placed anywhere near the ceiling to the floor, depending on the desired look.
They are great for displaying books, decorative items or photos, as well as any other items that need to be stored away neatly. It’s also smart to consider using the back of doors and cupboard panels to hang hooks and small shelves.
Make Use of Multipurpose Furniture
If you have limited square footage in your home, it might be beneficial to invest in multipurpose furniture pieces. This could include an ottoman that doubles as storage space or a sofa bed which can serve both sleeping and seating purposes.
For small kids’ rooms, you can invest in high sleeper loft beds, which can be used to store toys and clothes underneath. There are plenty of options available when it comes to multifunctional furniture, so make sure to take time looking around at the different designs, and benefits from different stores.
Incorporate Light Fixtures
Adding light fixtures, such as table lamps and wall sconces, are a great way to make any small space appear larger. As an added bonus, they can also be used as decoration.
Choose pieces that won’t overpower the room and opt for softer lighting over bright light bulbs, which can give off too much of an intense glow. Mirrors placed opposite windows will also help to reflect natural sunlight around the room, making it appear brighter and bigger.
Keep Things Minimal
It’s easy to get carried away with decorations when sprucing up a small living area, but it’s important to remember that less is more in this case. Try keeping your furniture and decorative pieces to a minimum and opt for items with a more minimalist feel.
This way, you won’t end up overcrowding the room, making it look and feel larger all at once.
