Experience the Authentic Flavours of Loco Lime’s Birria Tacos at Helch Market | Review

A few weeks ago I was browsing Instagram when the most delicious and vibrant authentic birria tacos popped up on my feed. Finding out it was a local food spot – you know I just HAD to try them!

I was so excited and ready to experience the authentic flavours and spices of this traditional Mexican dish, made with love and passion by the Loco Lime team.

Birria tacos were initially a regional dish, but as people started to migrate.

The popularity of this dish spread throughout Mexico and now to Dorset!

The traditional birria recipe calls for marinating meat, usually beef, in a variety of spices and chilies. This mixture is then slow-cooked for hours, resulting in tender and flavourful meat that just falls apart. Something that Loco Lime truly replicates!

The meat is then shredded and served in a warm tortilla, topped with mozzarella cheese, zingy chimichurri, homemade beetroot mayo, a garnish of cilantro, and a squeeze of fresh lime juice.

These honestly were delicious – the beef was tender and flavourful, the chimichurri added a playful tang, creamy beetroot mayonnaise added another dimension and the stretchy mozzarella was the icing on the cake, or taco in this case!

Served at the perfect temperature – they were hot, juicy and vibrant. Everything the OG Birria tacos traditionally aspire to be!

But they also offer a lot more than the traditional birria beef tacos!

To accompany my tacos I had their peri peri fries – a flavour explosion of seasonings that elevated their fries into something incredibly moreish and delicious.

They also offer smokey chipotle chicken tacos, which are dressed in homemade chipotle mayonnaise, melty mozzarella cheese, pickled crunchy onion and cabbage. If you’re vegetarian they also offer a roasted portobello mushroom alternative!

Even better – if you’re a burrito or rice bowl fan they also offer their three fillings; shredded beef brisket, smokey chipotle chicken, and roasted portobello mushrooms in these styles too!

Accompanied by smokey tomato rice, fried black beans, hand-smashed guacamole, fresh sour cream and their classic zingy chimichurri.

Whether you’re a fan of traditional Mexican cuisine or just looking to try something new and delicious, Loco Lime’s Birria Tacos at Helch Market will not disappoint. So gather your friends and family and head down to Helch Market for a taste of Mexico in Bournemouth, or if you’re local to Poole they have another street food kiosk in Cloud Kitchen!.

I am already looking forward to when I can next pop into the Helch Market or order on Deliveroo these taco’s again. They’re undeniably good!

Loco Lime believe in serving quality Mexican food at an affordable price to bring the spirit of Mexico to the heart of Dorset
and they truly delivered on this promise!
