I was invited along to experience the fat freezing treatment, also known as cryolipolysis, for the first time at the Beauty Sculpting Room in Lymington!

I’ve recently been struggling with my hormonal belly, a side effect from having PCOS (poly-cystic ovaries syndrome) , where no matter what I do to shift it – be it exercise or diet – it just won’t go!

To help combat this stubborn fat that is resistant to exercise and diet – the treatment of cryolipolysis was born!

Firstly – what is Fat Freezing or Cryolipolysis?

Fat Freezing is a non-invasive medical treatment which is used to destroy fat cells by freezing them.

Fat cells freeze at higher temperatures than the surrounding tissue such as skin, which allows the device to treat the unwanted fat whilst leaving your skin unharmed.

I was warmly greeted by Hetty when I arrived at the Lymington branch, which is situated opposite the Stanwell House Hotel on the high street. As with their Poole branch, the aesthetics of the clinic and welcoming vibes of the team is amazing. I felt comfortable and instantly relaxed ahead of my appointment which helped with the mix of nerves and excitement!

I had previously self-researched fat freezing ahead of my appointment. However, Hetty made sure to explain every step in detail to make sure I understood the treatment fully and what to expect ahead of us beginning the treatment, and then kept me updated on the stages of the treatment throughout.

What I noticed whilst researching this treatment and the hydrafacial I had a few month back – is how superior the machines and technology Beauty Sculpting Room use at both of their sites for their treatments.

The machine that they use for fat freeze has a 360 applicator cools the entire surface of the fat being targeted, as opposed to just two sides in older machines.

The difference in results can be as much as 50% more fat treated by a single applicator, giving their clients bigger and better results.

My treatment started with Hetty measuring my lower abdomen and taking my weight for the records to see how my results fair 12 weeks after the treatment!

I then got comfortable on the bed, and once ready, Hetty placed a membrane which helps protect the applicator area – which felt chilly but soothing like a cold face mask but for your stomach – and then affixed the applicator and situated it in a cosy to keep it in place and to make it more comfortable.

The applicator slowly sucks the area into itself and then heats the area to bring the fat to the surface ahead of the cooling stage. This felt so relaxing, as a PCOS girlie I am often hugging a hot water bottle, so this felt very cosy!

Once the area was fully sucked into the machine and heated, which only had a slight pinchy feeling, just as one would expect from the mechanism – it then started to cool my treatment area to -5 degrees.

There was zero discomfort, or pain, during this stage as it felt tingly at the most – and to be honest, I really didn’t notice much as I laid back and watched Brooklyn Nine Nine on the big screen. After 45 minutes, one and a half episodes, my treatment came to an end!

Hetty removed the applicator which revealed the frozen targeted area – which was a bit pink, but as someone with sensitive skin this is normal for me with anything to do with temperature, and she began to massage the area to bring it back up to normal temp.

Whilst she was massaging me she taught me how to massage it properly – as part of the aftercare of this treatment is to massage the area twice a day for a minimum of 5 minutes each. This is something I found easy to do in the morning before I got out of bed, and then after my evening shower with some of my favourite body lotion!

Another aftercare must is to drink 2 to 3 litres of water a day – this is because the lymphatic system removes the broken down fat cells, so the more you drink the more your body can use this to flush out the cells!

I had zero downtime and was back in work immediately after which makes this such a convenient procedure to have done especially when faced with a busy work schedule!

I am excited to see my results in the coming weeks! I was so relaxed during this whole experience – I was told what each step would be before it happened – and asked how I was feeling during each new step to ensure I was comfortable.

Overall, my experience with the Fat Freezing was fantastic. From the friendly and skilled technician to the quality of aftercare and advice for obtaining the best results, I was thoroughly impressed!
